Life Is What Happens When You Live More and Give More

When you make more money, you can do more with your life and share it with others as well – that’s basically the concept behind the Make More, Live More, Give More Blog.

Don’t get me wrong though, making a lot of money is nice but it’s not the end all and be all.  You will not lose yourself in the daily grind if you reward yourself for your hard work and you are able to realize fulfillment as you share your blessings with others.

That said I encourage you to check out the original post that explains the whole Live More & Give More concept at “Why we are here”.  Each month I’ll update you on what Ric and I do with our Live More & Give More Sales and hope you will join us in the practice.  It’s a LOT of fun <g>…

Live More: The $300 Birthday Dinner

Every month, Ric and I celebrate life and LIVE MORE.  We set aside a budget for it and use it to treat ourselves.  And since Ric’s birthday falls in September month, it gave us another reason to enjoy life.  His birthday is not simply a celebration of another year, but a reminder for us that we’ve gone this far, and we deserve all the good things life can offer. So we set aside some of our earnings and indulge.

That weekend, Ric’s sister, Kitty came over to party with the two boys while Ric and I went to Washington, DC to celebrate.  We decided to eat dinner at Restaurant 1789 in Georgetown, where they claim to have the best Rack of Lamb in the city.  And boy were they right!  It was a feast for the palate – absolutely amazing.  If you’re a foodie like we are, you’d enjoy the selection of dishes in their menu

Ric ordered the Beef Carpaccio for starters, and then the Geoduck (tasty but funky-looking clams) for his second course.  He chose the Roasted Monkfish as his main course, and had the Honey Fritters for dessert.

I started with the Pear Salad, which was wonderful, and then I got the Crispy Veal Sweetbreads that were just out of this world!  It was a good way to start my meal.  Of course, I asked for the scrumptious Rack of Lamb for my main course, which was served with roasted beets and greens on the side – a delectable combination.  If that won’t make your mouth water, I don’t know what else will.  To cap off the meal, I just ordered the Cheese Course since I have a major sugar intolerance.  But I did manage to grab a bite of Ric’s Honey Fritters and it was downright yummy.

Our dinner was truly unforgettable.  Our compliments to Chef Giusti who prepared the delectable dishes – its flavors and textures were simply sublime.  Many thanks also to our wait staff team that took good care of us and even made some phenomenal wine pairings with each course.

Since we were in DC that weekend, we didn’t miss the chance to visit the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and “My Diamond” as well (my maiden name is Hope, so I lay personal claim to the Hope Diamond <g>.)  And though it wasn’t part of our “LIVE MORE” budget, we splurged and stayed overnight at a beautiful suite in the Mayflower Hotel downtown.

Anyone can LIVE MORE. All you have to do is to regularly set aside the first sale from your business or the money from the first hour you work at your job – whatever works for you – just make it a certain amount so you use it to celebrate your abundance.

Give More: The $400 Big Give

The idea behind the GIVE MORE concept is to make a difference – now.  You can do so in your own way.  And Ric and I take the second sale we make each month and contribute to whatever cause we believe in.

This month we donated $200 to Run Tellman Run the man who is running on his bare feet across the U.S. to help raise funds for homeless kids.  Tellman is actually a good friend of ours.

Tellman’s run route began in Fort Lee, NY and he’s supposed to finish in Santa Monica, LA.  It seems crazy to run barefoot from east to west coast but it’s an effective way to raise awareness for the homeless youth, and maybe even raise the desired amount of $100,000,000 for them.

Yes, this looks like an unattainable goal but he believes that “If you don’t set yourself extremely ambitious goals, nothing great will ever be accomplished.”  With that guiding principle in mind, he began his journey on September 9, 2009 and is planning to accomplish his goal in just 99 days.  As of now, he’s somewhere in Elysburg, Pennsylvania.  If you want to track his progress, you can check it on his blog www.runtellmanrun.com.  You could also help support his cause by donating any amount online – even as little as five bucks would help.

Another way we tried to pay it forward is through Kiva.  Ric and I set aside $200 for Kiva, whose mission is “To connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty.”  It is actually the first of its kind website that allows person-to-person micro lending.  How does it work?  Well, you can choose to be a lender in the site (like what Ric and I did) and then select the person you want to lend to – just browse through the various entrepreneurs’ profiles.  After choosing, you can go ahead and make a loan.  With that, you’ll get the satisfaction of helping someone gain economic independence and improving his life as well.

Did I mention that Kiva has profiles of entrepreneurs around the globe?  So while you let your fingers do the typing, you could instantly help someone from the other side of the world.  Ric and I chose to give loans to two entrepreneurs from the Philippines – one is into livestock and the other is into farming.  We’re kind of new to this online loaning too but Kiva has this tool where you can track the progress of the loan status.  If you want to be a lender like us, you can sign up with Kiva.  It’s so easy.  Just visit the site and click on the “Lend” button.

Financial Freedom… and Why You Don’t Have It…

We all want it, but so few of us have it…

So what’s the REAL deal?

We all know that everything starts out small, and it usually starts in the mind. The greatest artwork, the tallest building, the most successful business started with a little, itty bitty idea. An idea that was thought through, grown and nurtured to eventually become something real, something that can be seen, touched, heard…experienced…

Believe me though; it isn’t as easy as just sitting in on the couch and hoping to “think” or “intend” the next best thing into existence. Contrary to what you may have seen in The Secret the “wish and pray” method of manifestation is NOT what the Law of Attraction is really about (but I’ll rant about that more another day <g>)…

Even with the grandest of dreams and the clearest intentions, good ideas can be hard or downright impossible to achieve because of this one little thing:

THE MIND VIRUS mind virus

You’ve heard about these “new” viruses right?

I’m NOT talking about computer viruses

And, I’m NOT talking about physical viruses like H1 N1, Ebola or AIDS

I’m talking about a totally different type of “virus”

A virus you won’t hear about from Microsoft or the Centers for Disease Control

One that won’t be the big headline on the evening news any time soon

That’s because this “virus” isn’t on your hard drive, and it won’t show up in a blood test

This virus is hiding somewhere most people will never find it…

It’s inside your mind…

The virus I’m talking about is something called a “Mind Virus.”

“MIND VIRUS – Any of various extremely pervasive, often dis-ease-causing agents consisting of a thought, containing a mental program within a protective coat often known as a belief. (p. 1, PANDEMIC – Bird Flu of the Mind)

But that title is a bit misleading… because there isn’t just ONE Mind Virus—there are many of them.

And if you aren’t seeing the success in business you KNOW you are capable of, then chances are, you are suffering from one of them.

Don’t worry; you’re not really in physical danger.

That’s because the “Mind Viruses” probably won’t affect your body – at least not directly…

They do something much more destructive.

Left unchecked, the Virus will replicate itself, eventually causing “terminal” mental cancer. [That doesn’t mean you’ll die physically, but your hopes and dreams do, you enter a state we refer to as “living death” (see p. 2, PANDEMIC – Bird Flu of the Mind for the specifics).]

Basically Mind Viruses will steal your Dreams, your Financial Future…

Your Freedom…

AM I INFECTED?

There are some universal symptoms you can easily identify to see if you’re infected.  Check these out…

  1. You don’t have the financial freedom you know you should have.

Then you might be infected.

But regardless, the real point is, SOMETHING is blocking your progress, you probably don’t know exactly what, and based on the research it’s highly likely THIS is what it is…

And if you’re anything like I was when I discovered these things you’re a little dazed and confused, and a lot upset.

All I could think was, “GOD, what would my life look like in 5 years if I hadn’t realized that I was infected with these Mind Viruses…

It wouldn’t matter what I did, what products I bought, what courses or seminars I participated in, what business ventures I was involved with, or what “golden opportunities” came my way…

It wouldn’t matter how many 18 hour days I worked…

It wouldn’t matter how many gurus I listened to or learned from…

It wouldn’t matter how many goals I set…

It wouldn’t matter if I had all the available “dirt” on my competitors…

It wouldn’t matter if I busted my ass, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, for the next 5 years straight…!

Because as long as these damned things were my head I would find a way to sabotage myself, snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, and generally continue to screw up my life.”

Can you relate?

Feel like you’ve been beating your head against a wall…?

And that nothing you do works quite right…?

Tired of feeling hollowed out and defeated…?

Just what will YOUR life look like in 5 years if you keep going on as you are today?

How much money will you waste?

How much time will you lose with your family and friends?

Will you ever be able to live the life you’ve always dreamed of?

Do you have kids? How much of their childhood will you miss if you keep on your current path? (This is probably the most brutal question we can ask ourselves…  I have 2 young boys and this one tore me to shreds…)

So I ask you…

Do you think you might be infected with a Mind Virus?

People infected with Mind Viruses usually KNOW.  They may not know exactly WHAT they are infected with, but they know SOMETHING is holding them back. (Again, get the report if you want the full details…)

So if you think you might be infected take a few minutes and go through the following exercise.  Identify the major things you feel are standing in your way, in your business, in your overall success in general, in your pursuit of financial and emotional freedom.  Identify the things that are holding you back, because THEY are your indicators of the negative Mind Viruses.

Is there anything currently in your life that could prevent, or make more difficult, the realization of your dreams for a successful business, financial freedom, or whatever it is that you desire most in life? (This might include poor habits, unsupportive relationships, clutter, doubt, and so forth.) What do you feel keeps you away from living your vision? What do you feel is standing in your way? List everything you can think of.

Hate Mail, The Pollyanna Myth, and How Personal Development is Screwing Up People’s Lives

OK, here’s the deal, I hadn’t originally planned on  going off on a RANT but I’ve just GOT to bust another big Myth that I hadn’t realized was quite so prevalent…

I call it the Pollyanna Myth (remember the little girl played by Hayley Mills who was perpetually “Glad” regardless of  Pollyanna Mythwhat was going on around her?  My mother loved that film and even as a kid it irritated the living crap out of me – but that’s another story all together <g>).

The Pollyanna Myth is truly an ugly one and here’s how it came up…

You see, most of the feedback we’ve been getting to the Hollywood Myths Report has been extremely positive, but we’ve had a few people who are all up in arms.

Now I don’t usually let that bother me, but what really struck me was that these people all have basically the same gripe.

Here’s a quote from one of the emails we’ve been receiving that pretty much sums up the gist of all those that don’t like it…

“This promotion… reeks of victim mentality, its tone is very negative and blaming… and the message in which (you) delivered it is uninspiring.  (It) is the antithesis of being empowered and taking responsibility for our lives.“

Right.

Now everyone is entitled to their opinion and when you get in people’s faces with stuff like we did you’re bound to tick a few people off.

What really gets to me though is the idea that people really and truly believe you have to be happy, positive, and upbeat all the time.

As if…

I’m calling a GREAT BIG B.S. on that one.

Now you probably know I’m the creator and co-founder of Healthy Wealthy nWise Magazine.  And since it’s the largest online self growth magazine in the world you could say I’m pretty well entrenched in the business of the Personal Development world.

I believe your personal development (without the capital P and D) is vitally important to the success of your business and in turn your ability to create the life you desire, but when anything becomes a multi-billion dollar industry a lot of crap, half-truths, and misinformation starts floating around and you have to be careful…

And the flavor of the month right now in Personal Development could pretty well be summed up as, “don’t worry be happy”.

Now I’ve got no problem with people being happy – in fact that’s what we’re all about – helping people create the freedom to live the lives of their dreams – sounds like Happy to me….

What I DO have a problem with is the idea that “positive thinking” regardless of what you’re feeling and experiencing is the key to that happiness.

You know what – if you’re feeling crappy, frustrated, and confused – thinking of fluffy bunnies, butterflies, and rainbows, just “ain’t gonna cut it…”

That’s masking the problem or sweeping it under the rug, and since when is THAT empowering?!?

That’s like having a water stain on your ceiling from a roof leak and thinking you’re fixing the problem by putting a coat of paint on it.  Yeah you can’t see the stain anymore but the problem is still there and it’s getting worse!!

You need to get to the root of the problem, dig it out, and transform it if you want to make real and lasting change.

But that doesn’t sound “nice” or “inspiring” – it sounds like work.  And it is.

But damnit we all know that’s how the world works and it really !$%#@% me off when people try to say differently…

About a year ago Ric and I were out in California meeting with Chris and Janet, our partners in Healthy Wealthy nWise.

Well when we were out there Janet and I were filmed for a movie that is in production to be an empowerment piece for women.  Well when I got there they told me one of the “vows” that the women who watch this movie will be taking to move them forward in life is, “to always be positive…”

I just about choked on my $8.00 bottle of water <g>.

When I got in front of the camera they asked me what one of the most important pieces of advice I could give to women was.

This is pretty much what I said and it goes for Men, Women, and Children…

There are a lot of people out there who are trying to tell you your negative emotions are bad and your positive emotions are good, and you should try to stomp out one and nurture the other.

It’s bogus!

Emotions are your guidance system they aren’t good or bad.

If you are in a situation where you are frustrated, stuck, upset, or downright ticked off you’re not supposed to try to change the EMOTION, you’re supposed to change the SITUATION – your participation in it, your reaction to it, your belief about it.

The emotion is telling you there’s something in the situation that doesn’t work for you and your job is to figure out what the something is.

The same goes for being happy, excited, and generally joyous…  You job is not just to revel in the emotions (while that can be fun too <g>) what is MOST empowering is to figure out WHY you’re feeling that way, what are you doing, who are you with, what are you thinking.  Then you can bring MORE of that into your life.

Positive thinking won’t make lasting change – examining your emotions positive AND negative and choosing what empowers you will make that change.

OK… probably NOT what they wanted me to say since they want everyone to “be positive” – that reel of film will most likely end up in the same spot as the reel from my interview for The Secret – on the cutting room floor <g>.

But that’s FINE – I’m not going to perpetuate another Hollywood or Personal Development Myth.  They’re DANGEROUS, they steal your power, and they’re DESTROYING your business!

Its time for the Personal Development world to stop trying to empower people and do what it’s supposed to do – Help People Empower Themselves!!

Power comes from within – success comes from within – the courage and the stamina to go out and run your own business, to face the challenges and prevail, to create the FREEDOM and the life you truly deserve comes from within…

And quite frankly there’s a lot of B.S. and other nasty stuff that’s standing in your way.  And a lot of well-meaning people who will set themselves up as a guru out there to “empower you.”

News Flash – No one can empower you – only YOU can empower you.

Now I know I’m preaching to the choir on this one, but I just had to get it out…

Ric and I have created or licensed the product that we sell, as well as this blog, to help you identify the stuff that is holding you back so you can eradicate it and to help you create TRUE freedom (financial and otherwise) so you can get on with LIVING MORE.

End of story.

If that tweaks a few people’s sensibilities so be it – the message is important and it needs to be uncovered.

After all today marks the day when we get down to the last 100 days of the year.  It’s crunch time and we can’t afford to be laboring under delusions perpetuated by Hollywood, a multi-billion dollar industry, or society in general.

In the next few days we’re going to be releasing the next expose’ piece that really digs in and shows you WHY we believe some of the myths we do – even when we “know better” – and how we can start systematically knocking them out of our lives once and for all.

Crap, Lies, and Videotape…

OK – I’m sure you’ve noticed the blog title – Make More, Live More, Give More. And last time I explained the concept and gave you some ideas for how to LIVE More and GIVE More.  But I know you’re probably thinking to yourself – whoa, wait a minute! It’s not as easy as it sounds! To begin with, we need to MAKE MORE. That alone is one heluva thing to do.

And if you’re like I used to be, the mental babbling begins right about …. NOW! <g>

If that’s the case, I ask you to temporarily tie up the Chicken Little in your head and follow-along for a minute <g>…

SO WHERE DO WE BEGIN?

Have you ever wondered why your business isn’t as successful as you thought it could be…?

Or if you haven’t really gotten off the ground yet, why you just can’t seem to get it moving…?

Have you been frustrated, tired and discouraged?

It’s not your fault…

I felt exactly the same way…

When my partner and husband Ric and I got started in the entrepreneurial world almost 17 years ago, to say we were utterly clueless about how to build a successful business would have been a MASSIVE understatement!

We didn’t know much about marketing or sales.  We had no idea about how to manage other people.  We thought strategy was something you needed to play chess. And we certainly didn’t know the first thing about how to make sure that at the end of the month, we were actually making money.

And it showed…

The fact is, we didn’t even know what we didn’t know.

But as odd as it might sound, that wasn’t really the problem.

Not knowing how to build a successful business wasn’t really the cause of some of our most spectacular business failures – and believe me some of them were SPECTACULAR.

And not knowing wasn’t the cause of our 12 year business education in the “School of Hard Knocks.”  What we later came to call the recovery period.

The real problem wasn’t what we didn’t know—it was actually what we thought we did know about business… that just wasn’t true.

We started by busting some of the biggest myths about business that we had learned from TV and the Big Screen.  After we busted the myths we began to see deeper to an even more sinister problem that we’ll talk about later.  But before we get there we need to start at the beginning and start busting the myths in YOUR life.

And that’s the reason we created the Hollywood Business Myths-Busted! report to dispel some of the biggest myths about business that are stealing the dreams and freedom of entrepreneurs just like you and me and keeping people in financial slavery.

These days Ric and I live the lifestyle of our dreams, doing what we want pretty much when we want, going on really cool trips to exotic places all over the world, and spending quality time with family and friends.  At the same time we have created and run the largest personal development magazine on the net with the longest ongoing personal development teleseminar series in the world.

It’s been a process, it’s been hard, it didn’t happen overnight, and frankly, we would be light-years ahead of where we are now if it hadn’t been for the boatload of B.S. we had floating around in our heads about business.  B.S. that was, on the surface, fed to us year after year by Hollywood, the media, and the people around us.

We ended up falling for most of the myths we busted in that report (and a whole lot more).  And it took years of trial, error, and frustration (not to mention more than half a million dollars…) to separate the fact from fiction… and to clear the obstacles standing between us and building a truly successful business.

We still work hard, but we choose to, and it’s a different kind of hard work – it’s the kind that leaves you energized and pic2feeling like you’ve moved mountains to create a new world – rather than feeling like you’re part of a chain gang breaking big rocks into little rocks with no purpose all day long…

And we’re fed up with seeing entrepreneurs just like you struggle like a worm on a hook because of the very same issues that held us back all those years.

Because of that we’ve started our companies and this blog.

It’s our goal to do everything possible to give you a way out.  To show you the truth about how business really works.  And to get you where you want to go more quickly, with less effort and a whole lot less frustration.

So if you’re serious about absolutely transforming your life and experiencing true freedom by building the business of your dreams, then there are a few more things we’ll be sharing with you over the next few weeks (like the reason you can even believe the Myths in the first place and how to cure yourself of that problem forever, for starters).

But right now, one of the big lessons we’ve learned is that there is something to learn from EVERYONE – not just the gurus.

So if you can relate, take a minute to post your biggest aha-ha moment, your biggest take-away, or even some of the myths (business or otherwise) you’ve had to deal with on your journey to success – remember most of them will be hiding in the guise of “tried and true” advice – usually from people who’ve never had a real or successful business in their lives…

To get you started here are a few more of the ones I had to BUST on my own…

Find a need and fill it BOGUS!  People don’t buy what they need, they buy what they WANT and then justify it as a need.

If people bought what they NEEDED all those network marketers selling health supplements would be rich and the makers of Pepsi and Doritos would be out of business.

The Customer is always rightNOT!  Sometimes the customer is just plain psychotic or a time waster and they need to be fired.

That doesn’t mean to ignore or marginalize a customer’s problems or complaints – you can learn a lot about how to better serve your market when you listen to your customers, especially the ones with legitimate problems and issues.  And never forget that good customers are your lifeblood.

With that in mind, there is a certain percentage of people who will buy your product or service who are mentally unstable, impossible to satisfy, or just should not have bought it in the first place.  Get rid of them (nicely) – those people would probably be better off being the customer of one of your competitors <g>.

It’s not fair to have other people do the “crappy” jobsB.S.! The definition of CRAPPY is completely in the eyes of the beholder.

When Ric and I first started Healthy Wealthy nWise Magazine we did EVERYTHING ourselves, from the editing and physically creating the magazine each month, to the JVs and product creation.  You name it – we did it.

It got to a point where it was just not possible to do it all anymore so reluctantly we hired the first person to help us and passed off some of the “crappy” work – that quickly turned into a team that today consists of more than 32 other people.

But the most surprising moment for me was when the woman who is now my editorial director came to me and said that she absolutely LOVED putting the magazine together every month.  From the selection of the articles to overseeing the publication deadlines, it was the biggest thrill for her and she was honored to have the job impacting people’s lives by the content she chose.

That made me stop and think…

I HATED putting the magazine together every month – I love the results it gets for people but everything that she loved I absolutely despised.  I thought that was the “CRAPPY” work that I was passing off.  I didn’t realize that I was the “crappy” person for the job.

Keep in mind that there is always someone out there who absolutely LOVES to do the things that you hate – find them and hire them to do it.  When you concentrate on doing the things you love and have other people helping you who love what they do too, then your business will grow by leaps and bounds.

Why we are here

Hi and welcome to Make More, Live More, Give More!

We’re here to share stories and concepts, swap success strategies and, talk about ideas that can change your life, your business, and the world…

But I’m getting ahead of myself…

First of all, I’m Liz Thompson and I make up one-half of an awesome partnership with my husband, Ric. We are the co-founders of HealthyWealthynWise Magazine, Small Business CEO Magazine, the Transperience Network and Yoovolution among other things…

I say awesome not simply because Ric and I have been happily married for nearly 17 years, not simply because we’ve been blessed with 2 wonderful and handsome boys – Chandler who’s almost 13 and Stefan at 4 and a half – and not just because together we’ve created multiple successful businesses that make a difference in the lives of people around the world.

It is awesome because we’ve reached a point where we can take a step back and share our success and how we got it.

In this day and age when competition in a dog-eat-dog world can be pretty cutthroat, just sharing our “success tips” would be a waste of everyone’s time.

We’ve found in our own lives and those of our friends who are very successful that “tips” are pretty much useless.  What we all need is solid, actionable strategies backed up by concrete, fire-tested, practical application that gets RESULTS.

Ric and I have been very lucky and we’ve worked hard to get to where we are today. We feel it’s time to “pay it forward”, as they say, and hope you can benefit from some of what we have learned.

WHY ARE WE HERE

The Concept is simple. The idea is to Make More, Live More, and Give More…

So what exactly does that mean?

Make More

In essence, this part of the concept refers to your financial resources. In our society money is the medium of exchange that makes the world go around.  We need it for the basic necessities, to fulfill dreams in our careers, business, family and personal lives.  We need money to get the ball rolling – and keep it rolling for that matter.

Anyone who tells you differently obviously doesn’t have a rent or mortgage payment, doesn’t go grocery shopping, and doesn’t wear clothes so they’re probably not someone you want to listen to in the first place <g>…

Like it or hate it we all have to make money to live in modern society.

Now back in 2003 Ric and I started Healthy Wealthy nWise Magazine to help people live their dreams, to help people discover what they love, and then go DO IT.  We’ve since branched out with another magazine, a 3-D interactive world for personal and professional development as well as tons of products and services – many of which you’ll hear about in the coming weeks and months.

But behind it all is the idea that if we can help people become great at what they are passionate about –  whether its selling soap from their garage, or mounting a one-man art exhibit, or anything in between – they will not just make more money, but have the freedom to enjoy their hard-earned cash.

They’ll MAKE more…

Which brings me to the next concept –

Live More

Live More

You may have heard of Abraham Maslow and his Hierarchy of Needs – it’s sort of a stair-stepped list of things a person needs to reach his or her maximum potential as a human.

Maslow said, very basically, on the first step to becoming even remotely successful in life, your physiological needs (food, water, shelter, clothing, sleep and breathing) must be met before you can even think about your safety (personal security, financial security, health and well-being, and safety against accidents/illness and their adverse impacts).

You have to have safety covered before you can go on to feel love and belonging through friendships, intimacy and having a supportive and communicative family.

Once you have THAT then you can go to having self-esteem, confidence, and the respect of others.

Then, and only then, can you achieve self-actualization.

It has to be in this order and one follows the other in a very linear fashion.

While I appreciate Maslow’s work and actually base quite a bit of my own work on his theories, he is not 100% correct.

What I’m trying to say is that when it comes to humans – rarely is ANYTHING that cut and dried.

In our lives, Ric and I have come to realize that you don’t need to have reached your maximum potential or have one million in the bank, before you can go out and make a real difference in your own life or the lives of those around you.

Success and self-actualization are NOT a destination; they are a state of mind.  And that state of mind needs to be nurtured and groomed.

At several points in our journey so far Ric and I have stopped to take a look at ourselves — focusing on us, making sure that we are happy and still on track. And as a result of that reflection have often changed course in ways that some might see as reversals.  But trust me, if you dive in head first all the time without looking up and taking a breath, you are bound to hit something hard and get knocked out!

So sometimes, between all the heartaches and headaches of starting and running our businesses we treated ourselves and enjoyed what we had created “so far”.  We ate at fancy restaurants, got a few massages, or splurged on a weekend at a great hotel.  Every once in a while we’d add a special volume or two to our extensive library, enjoy a ridiculously good bottle of wine, and take the occasional AWESOME trip.

From the relaxing to the heart-pounding, we felt our success right then and there. And we didn’t lose our minds trying to become millionaires before we lost sight of life as we knew it.

We LIVED more.

We still do.

And we want YOU to live more too – despite what is going on in the economy right now.

And here is one of the practical strategies we use to make SURE we’re LIVING more – and we invite you to join us in it…

We have what we call a LIVE MORE SALE.  Basically the first sale we make every month goes to living more – regardless of how much that sale is.  (And if you don’t have a business yet or aren’t making any sales you can STILL participate by taking the rate for the first hour you work at your job or something like that – the idea is to pick a measurement and stick to it!)

Of course now Ric and I spend a lot more on “LIVING More” than just the first sale of the month but we still take that first sale and enjoy it.

For example this past month our first sale was $297.  We took our 2 boys to this wonderful little wine bar/restaurant called Tastings on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, VA where we live.  They have fabulous food, excellent wine and a beautiful little dining patio outside.  We spent about 2 and a half hours there with the boys (you would not BELIVE how many Oranginas 2 boys can drink in 2 and a half hours) they played, had great food, and Ric and I enjoyed the quiet afternoon.  Then we splurged on a bottle of Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon to take home (as you get to know me you’ll realize I’m a COMPLETE food and wine junky <g>).  And then we took the rest of the money and bought snorkeling gear for our trip to Florida this month.

Just remember if you join us in the Live More concept simply take a set amount aside – the first “something” of each month and dedicate that to celebrating your abundance.

Make the commitment to LIVE more – it’s why we’re having this human experience.

Give More

Give More

At this point in our careers as entrepreneurs, we’ve seen the really good and the really bad. We’ve gone through the dirty work and plowed the fields back and forth.

Don’t get me wrong, we’re not complaining! Far from it!

We’re living the life we’ve worked hard for. We have time in our hands, the freedom to enjoy our children, travel and see the world. And we’re enjoying the successes from the business we’ve created.

The goal now is to “pay it forward”, as they say. We tell our stories, business observations, and we ask you to feel free to take your pick on how you want to use it in your business and your life.

To give more isn’t something you have to WAIT to do until you’re independently wealthy.  You don’t need to go out and instantly make a huge splash.

The idea is to make a DIFFERENCE, because for most people, myself included, one of the major drivers in their life is to make an impact.

But often we’re conditioned to think that we can’t make much of a difference…yet.

And that’s just not true.

That type of thinking deprives us of the great joy of actually seeing the difference we CAN make.  So Ric and I came up with the GIVE MORE SALE.

Yep you guessed it – it’s pretty much like the LIVE MORE SALE, only this is the second one of the month, and regardless of how big it is we use it to make a difference in something we care about.

Just of few of the things we’ve done with GIVE MORE SALES are:

  • Provide food and medicine for 8 abandoned babies in Africa
  • Send Christmas Stockings and presents to a unit of 17 soldiers stationed in Iraq (we found out later that the soccer ball we had sent had been the start of many a game of ball between the soldiers and the local Iraqi children – too cool…)
  • Provide school lunches for 1200 children in Rwanda
  • Give gift baskets to the elderly who are housebound in the winter
  • And lots of other cool stuff that feeds our souls

There are lots of programs out there where a few dollars can make a HUGE difference and the feeling you get is FANTASTIC!

You IMMEDIATELY feel more prosperous and abundant and it’s just plain fun!
